Board of Directors

Overview

The Association of Francophone Students is a non-governmental, non-partisan, non-profit, and independent organization whose mission is to promote diversity, rediscover and spread Francophone values among young people, and create a framework for contact, cultural, educational, and above all professional and social action for all (Francophone) students with initiative, cultural interests, and a desire for development.

Founded on November 6, 2001, at the initiative of the French language lector of the Faculty of Letters in Iași, Nathalie Duplaissy, and several students of different nationalities, ASFI is the oldest Francophone student organization in the country.

Starting in September 2007, the Association has been a member of the National Alliance of Student Organizations in Romania (ANOSR), the largest student federation aimed at promoting and defending the common interests of students in Romania. At the same time, since 2019, we have been founding members of the Federation of Non-Governmental Youth Organizations of Iași – FONTIS.

At the international level, since 2010, ASFI has been a member of the Youth Network of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (Réseau Jeunesse de l’Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie) and, since 2012, of the Network of Francophone Youth Organizations, Francophones sans Frontières.

The nationality of the founding members, who came from countries such as Congo, France, Morocco, Portugal, the Republic of Moldova, Romania, and their different fields of study (philology, economics, medicine, journalism, political science, law, geography, etc.) determined ASFI’s specific character—Francophone diversity—also captured by the Association’s motto, “Be different! Get involved!”

Values

The Association of Francophone Students of Iași rediscovers and promotes, among young people, students, and collaborators, the values of La Francophonie:
  • The French language, cultural and linguistic diversity;
  • Peace, democracy, and human rights;
  • Interest in education, training, higher education, and research;
  • Promotion of volunteering;
  • Intensification of multicultural dialogue;

Mission

ASFI’s mission is to develop and promote the interests of Francophone youth, to propose alternatives to society in order to spread the Francophone spirit in Romania, particularly in Iași, through:
  • Creating an environment where students can get closer to Francophone culture and benefit from the contribution of Francophone values throughout their studies, as well as in their future professional life;
  • Creating an environment of contact, social, and cultural action for all Francophone students (regardless of profile, faculty, or university) in Iași;
  • Carrying out projects that support university values;
  • Participating in local, national, and international programs for youth;
  • Learning project writing and development;
  • Consolidating social, academic, and cultural ties, uniting Francophone students in Iași;

Traditional Projects

  • “Show That You Care” (“Arată că-ți pasă”), the traditional charity project of the Association of Francophone Students of Iași, promotes solidarity and civic engagement by organizing activities meant to support people in difficulty. In each edition, volunteers mobilize the community through charity events, fundraising campaigns, and donations, offering hope and joy to those in need of support.
  • “Défi pour la Littérature” encourages creativity, reading, and intercultural dialogue, bringing together young people passionate about literature and the French language through interactive activities, workshops, and literary challenges. The project aims to demonstrate that literature represents a space for expression, reflection, and the exchange of ideas, adapted to current generations.
  • The “Francophone Student Days” Festival (“Zilele Studentului Francofon”) is one of the association’s largest cultural projects, bringing together annual artistic, educational, and recreational activities that promote the French language and culture. Through innovative themes and diverse events, the festival transforms the “Titu Maiorescu” campus into a space of creativity, collaboration, and intercultural dialogue, offering participants authentic and memorable experiences.
In addition to community-focused projects, the Association of Francophone Students of Iași also organizes two major projects addressed to its volunteers: one held in the first semester, and the other in the second semester of the academic year. These aim to develop the personal and professional skills of members through non-formal education activities, as well as to strengthen communication, collaboration, and team spirit within the association.
