Board of Directors

Overview

The Association of Young Romanians Outside the Borders – ATRAG Iași is an apolitical, non-profit, non-governmental, and non-partisan association. The association was founded in 2005 at the initiative of a group of ambitious Bessarabian young people, including Roman Podgornîi, the first ATRAG president. On May 30, 2006, the association also acquired legal status, being registered at the Iași Court.
In 2011, ATRAG Iași became a member of the Federation of Bessarabian Associations in Romania, whose purpose is to represent the interests of ethnic Romanian pupils and students before the authorities and the academic environment.
Since August 2017, ATRAG Iași has been a member of the National Alliance of Student Organizations in Romania, whose purpose is to represent the interests of all students in Romania.

Purpose

The purpose of the association is to represent young ethnic Romanians from outside the borders (Bessarabians, Ukrainians, etc.) before the authorities and the academic environment, state administration, as well as before other national and international organizations.

Mission

The mission of the association consists in developing and promoting the interests of ethnic Romanian pupils and students, as well as promoting Romanian culture from the Republic of Moldova within the Romanian cultural space, particularly in Iași, but also at the national level through:
  • creating favorable conditions for individual development and the integration of young ethnic Romanians, originally from the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, into the Romanian cultural space;
  • promoting the civic spirit among young people and creating a favorable environment through which ethnic Romanian pupils and students can get involved in organizing cultural events dedicated to young people in Iași and, in general, the Iași community;
  • offering support to students and pupils in solving problems that arise during their stay on the territory of Romania;
  • creating an environment for interaction, socio-cultural and educational contact for all ethnic Romanian pupils and students, regardless of the profile or faculty they follow;
  • consolidating relations with the academic environment, public environment, and private environment by organizing joint cultural events dedicated to the Iași community;

Traditional Projects

  • The “True Bessarabia” Campaign (“Adevărata Basarabie”) is the largest ATRAG-branded project, taking place annually in April-May and involving the organization of several cultural events dedicated to the Iași community: Campaign Opening, Bessarabian Film Screening, “Discover Bessarabia” Excursion, Bessarabian Theater Show, D.O.R. Festival (Discover Romanian Traditions) From Bessarabia, Flowers of May Party (Petrecerea Flori de Mai), and the Campaign Closing Gala.
  • The Bessarabia Cultural Festival involves organizing a series of events such as: Hora of the Union, Union Football Cup, thematic conferences and participation, alongside local authorities, in a series of activities commemorating the event of the Greater Union of Bessarabia with Romania on March 27, 1918.
  • The AdmiteRO Campaign, organized annually in partnership with the Federation of Bessarabian Associations in Romania, involves a series of information and counseling events for middle/high school/university graduates from the Republic of Moldova regarding continuing their studies in Romania. The AdmiteRO campaign involves several events such as: The Universities Fair of Romania, Adopt a Freshman, and I am a Student in Iași.
