Overview
In absentia lucis, tenebrae vincuntThe holding in Iași, on June 3, 1830, of the inaugural course “on laws” in Romanian by the state jurisconsult, Christian Flechtenmacher, marks the birth date of higher legal education in Romania. The official act establishing the Faculty was adopted on October 6, 1855, paving the way for Iași’s university life.
From that point on, the constant of the activity of generations of professors has been the formation of a body of jurists with solid professional training, equipped with competencies specific to a field in a continuous process of modernization. The current offer of legal studies is adapted to the demands of contemporary society, characterized by dynamism and competitiveness. Bachelor’s courses are structured for a duration of four years (full-time and distance learning) and finalized by passing a bachelor’s exam. Master’s programs are heterogeneously constructed and continuously shaped to provide a wide range of professional training, both initial and continuous.
Within the Faculty of Law, the academic path is built upon the dimension of courses and seminars and the practical dimension, supported by institutional partnerships. Equally, the Faculty polarizes the activities of the Legal Clinic, the Doctoral School, scientific circles, and student associations. Communication with the professional environment is an objective achieved through thematic conferences to which practitioners are invited.
The Faculty runs projects with external, national, and European funding, for the benefit of students, young researchers, doctoral candidates, and postdoctoral fellows. An opportunity for students is the Erasmus+ mobility program. The Faculty of Law in Iași has developed partnerships with traditional universities in the European cultural space from France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Finland, Greece, and the Republic of Moldova.
Our graduates can choose to work as magistrates (judges or prosecutors), notaries, lawyers, bailiffs, legal advisors, public servants within public administration, public managers, diplomats within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, business consultants, commercial relations specialists, or mediators.
In these coordinates, the daily life of the oldest Faculty of Law in the country stands under the sign of excellence, mobility, and enthusiasm.
The Law Library is located in building A of the University, second floor, 11 Carol I Blvd., 700505, Iași, E-mail: bib.law@uaic.ro, Phone: +40 232 20 1159.
