Overview

Relatively young, the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports was established in 1960. With a brief interruption of activity in the final years of communism, the faculty successfully and dedicatedly trains generations of recognized specialists in the field of human motor skills.

With a permanent preoccupation toward updating the curriculum, programs, and fields of study, the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports proposes an interdisciplinary educational offer, with multiple concerns in research and development, as well as a proactive organizational behavior that transforms it into a local, regional, and national pole of prestige, competence, and professional authority.

The academic staff can boast both titles at national and European championships and outstanding scientific achievements (won grants, bibliographic materials recognized nationwide, awards at invention exhibitions). Students are no less impressive, participating every year in National University Championships across all sports disciplines with meritorious results. Over time, over 20 European or world champions and more than 50 national-level medalists have studied at the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports.

The faculty’s development directions target: creating a portfolio of services oriented toward developing educational programs, continuous training, professional coaching, specialized counseling and assistance, and applied research that meet the demands and needs of students, master’s students, the business community, and administrative and community partners; high-performing management of the exploitation of its own sports base; creating modular continuous improvement programs with a curriculum harmonized with market dynamics; educational and professional partnership programs with international partners.

The Faculty of Physical Education and Sports provides modern equipment for current sports activities (recreational kayaks, windsurf, kite-surf, alpine equipment) used within dedicated disciplines: tourism, touristic orientation, skiing, and swimming-paddling practical expeditions.

Students have access to the following resources: a fitness room with specific equipment, two properly equipped gymnasiums, a weightlifting-bodybuilding room with specific equipment, an outdoor tennis-basketball court with a synthetic turf, lighting installation, and adequate fencing, a mini-stadium with a 200-meter track, a mini-football field, a jumping sector and a throwing sector, a handball-football field, a basketball court, and a volleyball court. To benefit from a generous range of sports activities, thematic workshops, and practical initiation lessons in various sports disciplines, students can become members of the student circles of qwan-ki-do, gymnastics, capoeira, fitness & aerobic.

The Faculty of Physical Education and Sports develops collaborations with universities in France, Portugal, Spain, Poland, the Czech Republic, the Republic of Moldova, Italy, the Netherlands, and Germany within the framework of European Erasmus+ programs and with all faculties of physical education and sports in Romania.

The Faculty of Physical Education and Sports offers its beneficiaries a package of knowledge, practical skills, and interdisciplinary competencies that provide the opportunity for real integration into the labor market in the context of personal and creative development. The typology of professional areas includes professions such as: physical therapist, physical education teacher, sports instructor, fitness & aerobic instructor, monitor in children’s, teenagers’, and adults’ camps, coach, sports animator, sports guide, leisure monitor, and socio-educational animator.

The faculty’s creed is animated by the desire to train future specialists who can easily adapt to the accelerated dynamics of the sports field’s reality and to achieving excellence and success in the provision of educational and commercial sports services.

The Physical Education and Sports Library is located in building D of the University, ground floor, 3 Toma Cozma St., 700554, Iași, Phone: +40 232 20 1127.
