Overview

In 1860, the Faculty of Philosophy represented the core of the University of Iași, alongside the Faculties of Theology and Law. Over time, some of the most illustrious names of Romanian intellectual life have lectured in the faculty’s amphitheaters: Titu Maiorescu, Vasile Conta, Simion Bărnuțiu, Dimitrie Gusti, Ștefan Zeletin, Ion Petrovici, Mihai Ralea, Petre Andrei, Alexandru Claudian, Ștefan Bârsănescu, Vasile Pavelcu, Petre Botezatu, and Ernest Stere. Similarly, closer generations have benefited from the presence at the podium of personalities such as: Titus Raveica, Teodor Dima, Ștefan Afloroaei, Vasile Miftode, Petre Dumitrescu, Anton Carpinschi, George Poede, and Constantin Sălăvăstru.

Over the decades, the faculty has expanded its scope of activity and collaboration, establishing partnerships with significant academic institutions in Romania and with public and private employers in the fields of philosophy, sociology, political science, international relations and European studies, social work, human resources, communication sciences, and public relations.

Students, master’s students, and doctoral candidates of the faculty can benefit from study and internship placements abroad, primarily within the European Erasmus+ program, capitalizing on the relations that the Faculty of Philosophy and Social-Political Sciences in Iași maintains with over 60 universities (from countries such as: Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Poland, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, as well as the United States of America or Canada).

With a permanent concern for the professional training of its students, the faculty has concluded over 50 partnerships with public institutions, NGOs, and companies, offering students possibilities for practical work, volunteering, internships, and collaborations that constitute platforms for future employment. In addition, the faculty periodically organizes dialogues between students and renowned specialists from its fields of activity.

Graduates of the Faculty of Philosophy and Social-Political Sciences can pursue a successful career in fields such as: pre-university and university education, culture, scientific research, local and central public administration, communication and public relations, mass media, market research and public opinion polling, human resources, political science, international relations and European studies, social policies, public policies, and social services.

The Philosophy Library is located near the Student House of Culture, 11 Lăpușneanu St., 700750, Iași, Phone: +40 232 20 1155.
