Overview
Established in 1992, the Faculty of Computer Science within the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași is the first and only Faculty of Computer Science in Romania. The faculty has extensive collaborations with the IT industry, including partnerships with renowned national and international companies. The Faculty of Computer Science laid the foundations of the iTransfer Technology Transfer Center, which has been operating for over 5 years as a catalyst between the academic environment and the profile industry.The modern and permanently updated curriculum includes courses in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, programming, databases, software engineering, mixed reality, game development, neural networks, blockchain, quantum computing, and many others, allowing students to create a personalized learning path adapted to their own needs and aspirations. Students benefit from a young, open, and friendly faculty staff, modern facilities, including all laboratories recently renovated with the support of IT companies, with state-of-the-art equipment, and multiple possibilities for accommodation, volunteering – including in student associations, and involvement in profile communities active in Iași.
Through research, the Faculty contributes not only to the academic development of the field but also to solving complex societal problems. This commitment to research supports the institution’s mission to train well-prepared leaders and professionals capable of applying theoretical knowledge in various practical contexts.
Our students, benefiting from the encouragement and support of the Faculty, successfully participate in numerous national and international profile competitions – competitive programming, algorithmic, application development, and mathematics. At the Faculty of Computer Science, work is constantly underway to ensure an easy transition from education to career through various means:
- numerous practical and internship placements organized in partnership with IT companies (“Stagii pe bune”);
- real projects, organization of technical competitions and hackathons, which offer students real and practical experience;
- encouragement of entrepreneurial initiatives (Innovation Labs);
- collaborations with companies, through which industry specialists are invited to hold courses, seminars, and presentations (FII Practic, FII CODE, SpringSchool);
- summer schools (ECODAM, EUROLAN);
- courses organized and taught entirely by companies (Learn & Earn);
- mobilities (students are encouraged to participate in the Erasmus+ program and other national and international exchange opportunities to get in touch with reality on as broad a scale as possible).
