Overview

Erasmus Student Network (ESN) is one of the largest student organizations in Europe, bringing together over 519 local sections in 45 countries and approximately 40,000 volunteers who annually support over 350,000 international students. Its activity is carried out under the principle “Students Helping Students”, promoting academic mobility, intercultural exchange, and personal development.

In Romania, ESN is represented by 14 local sections, and ESN Iași is among the oldest and most active ones. Currently, the organization brings together 89 volunteers from the city’s five major universities, involved in the Communication, Human Resources, and Events departments.

The mission of ESN Iași is to facilitate the integration of international students and offer them a complete academic, social, and cultural experience. Through the Buddy System program, they benefit from support even before arriving in Iași, receiving information and guidance regarding student life, accommodation, transportation, and local activities.

Throughout the semester, the organization carries out events and projects that promote the six ESN causes: Culture, Education & Youth, Environmental Sustainability, Health & Well-being, Skills & Employability, and Social Inclusion. At the same time, ESN Iași implements projects financed through European funds, such as “Global Village” (March 2026) and “Boost Your Career – Choosing the Right Path for Your Future” (2024), initiated and developed by the organization’s volunteers.

Activity

ESN Iași organizes numerous cultural, social, and charitable events, in which Erasmus students actively participate, thus having the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the cultural and social environment of the city. These activities are dedicated both to students on Erasmus mobility and to international students pursuing study programs in Iași, as well as to the organization’s volunteers.

At the beginning of each semester, Welcome Weeks are organized for both newly arrived students and newly recruited volunteers, to familiarize them with the ESN environment. These weeks include activities such as city tours, team-building activities, and outdoor events. The association also carries out activities throughout the entire academic year.

Among their established events are Social Night, Iași Discovery Game, Buddy Meeting – a social event where Erasmus students officially meet their ESN buddy, Romanian Cultural Evening, International Dinner, and, at the end of the semester, the Farewell Event, where the most active Erasmus students are awarded and the merits of the most active volunteers are recognized.

At the national level, ESN Iași students and volunteers participate in events such as “Halloween in Transylvania”, “Escape to Vama Veche”, and the “National Erasmus Games”. Volunteers also take part in national platforms periodically organized by the ESN Romania network.
