Overview

The Faculty of Mathematics has been operating since the establishment in 1860 of the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași, initially as a section of the Faculty of Philosophy, then as a section of the Faculty of Sciences, later becoming an independent faculty.

Over the years, the School of Mathematics in Iași, especially the Faculty of Mathematics, has contributed to opening vast research directions initiated by famous personalities, such as: A. Myller, O. Mayer, C. Popovici, S. Sanielevici, M. Haimovici, A. Haimovici, D. Mangeron, and others. The mathematicians of the Iași school, exceptional professors, have placed the faculty among the most prestigious in the country. This tradition has enjoyed remarkable continuity and, thus, nowadays the School of Mathematics in Iași is represented by numerous globally recognized specialists.

Graduates easily find jobs in the fields of computer science, industry, applied research, banking and insurance, and education at all levels. Interested parties can continue their studies within the Doctoral School of the faculty or at other doctoral schools in the country or abroad, with access facilitated by the prestige and results obtained by the members of the Faculty of Mathematics of the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași.

To facilitate students’ access to the labor market, the Faculty of Mathematics has concluded partnerships with several companies in Iași, especially in the IT field, so that students have the opportunity to perform practical internships.

The faculty features amphitheaters, seminar rooms, and laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art computing technology, as well as an astronomical observatory, a planetarium, and a library. The latter, known as the “A. Myller” Mathematical Seminar, established over a century ago (1910), has become the best mathematics research library in Romania and rivals, through its book collection, libraries of major universities around the world.

Top graduates of the faculty are employed at prestigious universities and research institutes in the USA (Princeton, Berkeley), France, Canada, Italy, Germany, etc., or at renowned companies in the IT field (IBM, Microsoft, Amazon, Centric, Continental, Endava, Ness, Unicredit, etc.).

The Mathematics Library is located in building B of the University, ground floor, 20A Carol I Blvd., 700505, Iași, E-mail: bibmath@uaic.ro, Phone: +40 232 20 1561.
