Overview

The Geography and Geology Students’ League of Iași is a non-governmental, apolitical, and non-profit student association whose purpose is to support and promote the socio-professional interests of students from the Faculty of Geography and Geology of Iași, to support the modernization activity of Iași geographical education, as well as to strengthen relations with university and scientific research environments in the country and abroad.

Projects

The implementation and execution of activities initiated by the Geography and Geology Students’ League have also offered it a European opening. While at the national level it is one of the strongest organizations within UNI (National Union of Students of Romania), since October 2008 L.S.G.G. has also been part of the European Geography Association for students and young geographers (EGEA), re-establishing the Iași branch of this organization. This context has provided us with a greater openness toward projects carried out at the national and European levels.

Team spirit, hard work, and communication have greatly helped our association develop. Thus, L.S.G.G. is the protagonist of many activities within student projects, festivals, and beyond, among which stand out:

The „România La Pas” Project – 2025: Financed project for touristic promotion in the Vatra Dornei and Pârâul Rece areas through the creation of short reel/tiktok video clips.
The „Iașul La Pas” Project – 2025: Financed project aimed at promoting the city’s tourist attractions among young people;
The „Whale Hunting” („Vânătoarea de Balene”) Project: cleanup activity in 3 key areas in Iași (Ciric, Galata Forest, Șorogari Ski Slope/C.A. Rosetti), plastic bottle collection, information campaign;
The „Iași Discovers” („Iași Descoperă”) Project: visits to museums in the city of Iași, intended for high school students and first-year students in Iași;
Organization of the GEO-GEO Freshmen Ball – MISS and MISTER Contest;
Social projects (humanitarian campaign for children „One student, one toy, a happy child” / „Un student, o jucărie, un copil fericit”, campaign for the elderly „Together for a smile” / „Împreună pentru un zâmbet”);
The GeomondIS National Geography Contest for high school students;
The „GeomentIS” Magazine;
Organization of trainings within the Association on project writing, teamwork, public speaking, time management, leadership, etc.;
Participation in the projects and events of the Student House of Culture – Rock`n`Iași, Folk`n`Iași, Gaudeamus, FestudIS, Student House of Culture Days: art and creation shows, association parade, concerts;
Collaboration and organization of exchanges with other EGEA (European Geography Association) entities from Cluj, Timișoara, Bucharest, Budapest, Bonn, etc., Romanian Freshmen Weekend (RFW), European Eastern Regional Congress, Annual Congress;
Participation in UNI activities and events (Congress of Students in Romania, UNI General Assembly, Leadership School, Trainer of Trainers, seaside camps – SummerCamp and mountain camps);
L.S.G.G. prepares you for the exam session;
Presentation of Erasmus Practice Programs and Mobilities;
Entertainment (Various parties – Halloween party, Karaoke Night, BeerPong);
L.S.G.G. marries you on Dragobete;
Excursions (Bârnova, Rarău, Hășmaș, Ceahlău, Ciucaș, Retezat);
The anniversary project Days of the Geography and Geology Student (Z.S.G.G.): Tramway Party, LSGG at the theater, general knowledge contest about geography and geology – „Do you want to be a Geomillionaire?” („Vrei să fii Geomiliardar?”), sports activities (football championships, laser tag), Camping;
Socializing evenings (movie nights, board games nights, karaoke nights).

In this academic year, 2026-2027, L.S.G.G. aims to continue the tradition of large-scale projects through which to contribute to the development of student activities within the Iași university environment. Raising cultural-educational standards in the student environment, promoting the civic spirit among youth, and facilitating international exchanges of experiences, knowledge, and information are, therefore, directions of development for the organization.
