The “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University campus, including the student dormitories, benefits from high-speed connection to the data communications network of the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University managed by the Department of Digital Communications (DCD).
The University’s network is connected to the national education and research network RoEduNet, through which both students and teaching staff have access to the European-level academic education and research network, GEANT. Almost all universities in Romania, as well as research institutes, schools, and high schools, are connected to RoEduNet (and implicitly to GEANT). Through the same network, RoEduNet, the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași also has access to the Internet network for educational and research purposes.
Access to the data communications network of the University is ensured for all students, in accordance with industry standards, using high-speed communication technologies. The use of the communications network is carried out after validating each student’s data and creating the single access account. All access accounts for the data communications network can be used for authentication and access within any institution registered in the EDUROAM project, with the majority of prestigious universities in Europe currently being members of this project.
The access account ensures connection to both the wired network and the wireless network of the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University, as well as access within the EDUROAM project at the European level. Ensuring the security and confidentiality of data communications through the network is achieved through the Security Policy and Plan adopted at the University level, through the RoEduNet network usage regulation, and through its academic character in accordance with current legislation and Internet network etiquette rules. Network connection can only be made using a personal computer or the computing systems provided by each faculty in specially designated rooms, libraries, and laboratories. The standard registration form that must be completed (and submitted online) is available on the website http://register.uaic.ro. Recent information about the registration system and account status can also be found on the same website.
Access/connection issues to the communications network are reported through a HelpDesk-type system available via email (support@uaic.ro) or phone (+40 232 201002). A series of student dormitories also benefit from access to the University’s wired voice/telephony communications network.
Students of the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University benefit from communication services integrated into the European education and research system, under performance and security conditions at least comparable to those in European universities.
